Within the scope of "Improvement of ITU Energy Institute Education and Research Infrastructure" (Project No: 46149) supported by Istanbul Technical University Scientific Research Projects (ITU BAP) Unit, a comprehensive infrastructure modernization is being carried out in the Institute laboratories.

The project manager is Prof. Dr. Adnan Midilli and the Institute's academic staff.

Within the framework of this project, significant improvements focused on digitalization and security are being completed in laboratories. With the electronic access system established for laboratory entrances, compliance with international standards in both traceability and environmental radiation safety applications has been strengthened.

Scope and Contributions of the Project
This project, carried out in line with the targets of strengthening energy technologies, nuclear research and R&D infrastructures emphasized in the Twelfth Development Plan (2024–2028), is carried out in the Institute laboratories:
• Modernization of education and research infrastructure,
• Conducting postgraduate thesis studies more effectively,
• Increasing research capacity based on international collaborations,
• It aims to contribute to high impact factor publications and international congress participation.

Academic Mission of the Laboratory
Within the radiation measurement laboratories, ITU Energy Institute supports research in;
• Radiation physics,
• Gamma/beta transmission and absorption measurements,
• Sensor material characterization,
• Nuclear material behavior,
• Radiation safety training

for both research activities and postgraduate course applications in its fields.

With the new infrastructure, the laboratory offers a stronger and safer working environment for international projects, conducting thesis studies and supporting qualified research.

Strategic Importance of the Project
This improvement is a strategic step that strengthens Institute's:

• Nuclear research capacity,
• Quality of education and training,
• Sustainable R&D infrastructure,
• Level of readiness for international cooperation
