Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Energy Institute and the University of Tirana are collaborating on a research project focused on developing antiviral surface coatings. The project, which is supported by the University of Tirana and contributed to by Prof. Dr. Nilgün Baydoğan, aims to create photocatalytic surfaces that are effective against COVID-19.
The project involves synthesizing titanium dioxide (TiO₂) photocatalysts supported by graphene or zeolite, designed to inactivate the virus under ultraviolet (UV-A) light. Additionally, thin-film photocatalytic coatings are being applied to concrete surfaces to evaluate their efficiency and effectiveness.
This initiative seeks to provide innovative solutions in the fields of antiviral coatings and surface engineering.
The project is led by Prof. Arjan Korpa from the University of Tirana.
