The Energy Institute was established in 2003 following the restructuring of the Nuclear Energy Institute—founded in 1961—pursuant to Council of Ministers Decision No. 2003/5442 dated April 3, 2003, with the aim of continuing its educational, teaching, and research activities to encompass other fields of energy as well. Our Institute, which has trained numerous individuals serving in science, research, education, and the private sector both in our country and around the world since 1961,

-is dedicated to conducting pioneering scientific research in energy and related fields,
-implementing R&D/product development projects supported by the energy sector,
-providing high-quality education to cultivate individuals with advanced academic training, and
-serving as a guiding force by generating ideas, proposals, and solutions in relevant areas.

To ensure that university-industry collaboration becomes sustainable and robust, the Energy Technopark—Turkey’s first thematic technopark—was established within the boundaries of the Energy Institute with the support of the ITU Rectorate and the ARI Technopark management, housing companies engaged in energy-related R&D. By fostering strong and lasting collaborations between the R&D firms in the Energy Technopark and the Energy Institute, a shared ecosystem has been created.
